Celebrating Doug!

We had the chance to celebrate the Sewickley Herald's 2012 Man, Woman, and Citizen of the Year awards at the Edgeworth Club on Friday evening. It was truly a lovely night with friends, family, board members, and community members, as Laughlin's executive director Doug Florey received the wonderful honor of Man of the Year! We are so proud and thankful to work alongside such a dedicated, visionary, kind, and humble man!

Enjoy snapshots of the event, below!

"For his dedication and unwavering support of the Sewickley community, Doug Florey has been named the Sewickley Herald 2012 Man of the Year. He is Executive Director of Laughlin Children's Center and has spearheaded the Sewickley Nonprofit Consortium to give area organizations a place to pool ideas and have discussions" (Sewickley Herald).

In his speech, Doug referenced Bernard of Chartres' Latin proverb, "Nanos gigantum humeris insidentes: Standing on the shoulders of giants", as he humbly thanked the people that help make Laughlin, and the Sewickley community, such powerful places for children.

Doug also held a moment of silence for those affected in Boston and West, TX last week, quoting Fred Rodgers' famous advice to "look for the helpers" during times of distress.

Thank you and congratulations, Doug!!!
