SA Presents "The Realities of Teen Relationships"

February 1  “The Realities of Teen Relationships”
9:00 am – 10:00 am @ Sewickley Academy

Sewickley Academy has graciously opened up this Grade 6-12 Parent Presentation to the community. If you want to know the what, who, why and how of today’s adolescent sexual landscape, join Katie Koestner, nationally renowned expert on teen relationships, gender and student safety, for this eyes-wide-open presentation.  Embark on an analysis of gender, power, technology, economics, and synapses wired for risk-taking.  Learn how to broach these typically embarrassing topics and leave empowered to have a profound conversation with your teen.

Katie’s combination of anecdotes, research, case studies, and discussion never fails to create an engaging, thought-provoking experience for her audience members.  She successfully bridges the generation gap, making her presentation relevant to parents of tweens, teens and young adults.  The program provides a list of suggestions for establishing positive relationships and how to continue parenting through the adolescent years.  High risk behaviors will be identified as well as ways to reduce risk.  We will cover parties, proms, hooking-up, gender issues, harassment, stalking, cyber-friends, and more.  An examination of the locus of gender and self-concept and the importance of healthy self-esteem are integral to the program.

Katie Koestner is a national expert on student safety and wellness. She is the Executive Director of Campus Outreach Services, a national organization dedicated to developing research-supported curricula, model policies, and outstanding educational programs for schools on student risk issues. Her work has assisted more than 1,500 schools across the country in enhancing their prevention and response to sexual and technology related misconduct over the last fifteen years. Ms. Koestner has also published two books on the subject.

If interested in participating, please RSVP to Cheryl Ann Lassen (classen@sewickley.org) by January 23rd.
