6th Grade Business Project: Reaching for the Clouds

A local sixth grade class will be opening a free trade craft shop in The Village that will benefit women in Costa Rica as well as raise funds for their upcoming work trip to the country this spring. This project aims to teach students how to start and run a small business. The products that will be sold have been handmade by a group of Costa Rican women who come from a region called The Cloud Forest. These Costa Rican women are a part of a free-trade co-op based in Pittsburgh. The class chose to name the shop after this group of women. Reaching for the Clouds will be located on Beaver Street between Vivo and B Gourmet.

Reaching for the Clouds Hours & Dates:
Saturday, December 1st, 8th, 15th from 10am-5pm
Sunday, December 2nd, 9th, 16th from 11am - 4pm
Wednesday, December 5th, 12th, 19th from 10am - 8pm

The students will get the chance to meet and work alongside the women while on their trip. Reaching for the Clouds will also be selling items from artisans here in The States, one of whom lost her entire shop in Hurricane Sandy. A representative from the Pittsburgh free trade co-op helped the sixth graders select their products.

A portion of all of the proceeds will be donated to Women of the Cloud Forest as well as the Cochran Firehouse Volunteer Firefighters. Free gift-wrapping will also be available upon request.

This is a great educational opportunity for these students. Please support this project if you are able this holiday season!
